Searching for the accommodation online, recently the word “guesthouse” started to draw my attention on the search results.
The price is so attractive that you can stay for only 2,000～yen even in Tokyo. However, if you have no experience of staying at a guesthouse, you sure have many questions like “What is the difference between a guesthouse and a normal hotel?” “Is it mainly for foreign guests?” and so on.
To answer those questions, let me introduce what it’s like to be staying at the “guesthouse” including the real experience of mine!
“Capsule Hotel Asahi Plaza Shinsaibashi” is located just between 2 of the Osaka’s main stations called Namba station and Shinsaibashi station. Only 5 min walk from both stations!
Not only the great access from the stations but also main sightseeing spots are within walking distance like Dotombori, Americamura, Namba Grand Kagetsu, and so on.
Capsule hotel itself is also attractive that it has well satisfied services like large common bath, sauna, and massage. The facility also provides women-only area which cares about privacy and safety for women.

This time, I visited “Hostel 64 Osaka” which had been built by renovating retro building.
Since the building was built in 1964, the name of this hostel is called “Hostel 64 Osaka.” I could feel the stylish atmosphere from its name!
The location is very convenient since it’s only 3 min walk from “Nishi Nagahori Station,” around Shinsaibashi area in Osaka.
This hostel is highly recommended for those who are resistant to dormitory room, because there are private rooms, and even the dormitory rooms are spacious and independent by partitions.

“Oak Hostel Cabin” is located at Nihonbashi area, near Tokyo station.

Shimbashi is famous for the place where you would come across with many middle-aged men, known as a town of businessman.

“Kyo-machiya” means Kyoto's traditional house.
Near Nijo-jo Castle in Kyoto, there are two Kyo-machiya which had been renovated into guesthouses.

This time, I have visited these 2 guesthouses called “Hostel Mundo Kyoto” and “Hostel Mundo Chiquito.”
Let me introduce with the bar called “Bar Otro Mundo” owned by the same owner.
The word “Mundo” named in each guesthouses and the bar comes from the Spanish, meaning “World” in English.
The owner Mr. Yonehara was a backpacker who had been traveling more than 100 countries over 8 years. Other staffs are also travelers who have been to other countries and places.
As they themselves were travelers on their journey, they would welcome travelers coming to Kyoto from all over the world. They would welcome them with warm hearts and would provide the place where everyone can interact without any hesitation.
“Guesthouse Morizou,” which has just opened last September, is located at quiet place near Osaka Castle.
Being used as a warehouse before, private house had been renovated into the warm and stylish guesthouse.
Warm orange light is leaking through the glass door, once you stepped in, cute decorations of goods and books surrounded by green plants would welcome you.
“Rather than having fun by making a lot of noise, I want guests to feel relax as if they were visiting their friend’s house.”
Running by a sweet female owner Ms. Hattori, I visited this lovely place for a little while.
7 min walk from “Shichido Station” in Osaka, there is an old Japanese-style house which had been renovated as a guesthouse.
Its name is “Osaka Guest House Drummer’s Dream,” “Taiko Tatakino Yume” in Japanese.
I have visited this guesthouse where you can experience the full of encounters with people and the music.
Unique drum signboard is displayed at the entrance of the house. Once you enter the house, you will hear the comfortable sound of music and conversation of the guests.
The owner Mr. Kojima has experience of working at the famous guesthouse. Let me share the photos and information on this owner’s original guesthouse!
I heard that there is a capsule hotel near Namba in Osaka which has good Onsen (hot spring) facility where women can also stay! The name is "Spadio." Let me share the actual data which I collected during the visit.
Especially being proud of its natural onsen “Naniwa 7 Happiness,” there are also other services like oxygen capsule, stone sauna, massage, body scrubbing and so on which can all unwind your body.
Is the Onsen fee free? Can women stay safely? Are there many foreign guests? Should I make a booking ahead?...etc.
